So I made a new post at the Tome of Writs.  It’s all about this graphic novel by Faith Erin Hicks that I just read, called Zombies Calling.  I was just browsing around her website, looking at the page dedicated to the book.  I find it very interesting to see sort of the artist’s process here, at least with the development of how things came to be.

Also, I find it awesome that she has things posted there such as what she sent in to Slave Labor Graphics to try and get published.  It makes for a nice example, though I wouldn’t think I’d have any real use for it until years from now.  Oh well, still interesting as shit.

Creek-side

Yesterday I and two of my friends ventured out into the hollow across the street from my house, where there is a long creek that curves and winds through several towns, into a river I believe.  Without any formal decision, we followed the creek downstream for what could have been several miles, going through tunnels under bridges if there were rocks to step on, otherwise going over the street above and back down.  The whole thing really felt like an adventure, even one with slight danger.

Eventually we met up with another friend, and the four of us continued until we came to a small park in a town I didn’t recognize.  The thing had a playground merry-go-round, which was awesome, and a yard with three friendly and adorable Labradors.  At least I think they were Labradors.  I don’t know dogs very well.  But they were adorable.  After some general hanging-out, we left for our mutual friend Spiro’s house, parting ways with one friend, then stopping along the way to, uh, hang out some more…yeah, hang out more.  We spent a fairly crazy and very fun night at Spiro’s, during which the friend we had met up with left.  Afterward, the remaining two of us simply walked to our respective houses.

Well, that didn’t quite sound so exciting and fun summarized as such.  But it was fun when it was happening.

Comments: Just finished day 1, week 1 on rank 2. Think my schedule will be Wed, Fri, Sun. Was worried initial test would be wrong, but after first day, doubt it. Was also unsure if 60 seconds would be much rest after push ups, but again, everything worked out well.  Kind of excited/interested to see progress, ability to do more and more.

Pre-College: Mass Song

I think, before I go to college, I want to buy a CD that I don’t already own from each artist that I listen to often.  That’s not a large list for me.  I’m not very varied when it comes to music in that I can list maybe 10 favorite artists; at the same time, however, I kind of am varied, in that the artists span several genres, from country to nerd-core hip-hop.  The list, for posterity:

That’ s actually it, right there.  Mostly.  I mean, not all of the 1,255 songs in my iTunes library are from those artists, but those are the twelve I call my favorites.  They’re in no order, and I’ve denoted the ones that I can’t actually buy a CD for, since I own all of the non-compilations already.  As for Jonathan Coulton: I have a whole bunch of his songs spread across all of his albums and such, but own not a single album in its entirety.  I might just buy all of his songs.  Or a few whole things of his.  Something.

I just thought of doing this, right after listening to some Voltaire and remembering my Voltaire phase last year, where I just pretty much listened to his songs all the time.  I have phases like these for pretty much all of the artists up there, but I’m beginning to jump around a whole lot now, not having anyone significantly new and favoritable to obsess over.

I just think it would be a good idea for me to have a whole slew of new, fresh things to listen to when I get out there.  I might even get some CDs from some other artists.  Time to save more money.
