Straight Ahead

February 24, 2009 Game Master Leave a comment

Last night I bought the Pennywise album Straight Ahead.  I was originally looking for an mp3 version of Land of the Free? but for some reason couldn’t find one on either iTunes or Amazon.com.  I wanted it since I particularly enjoy the song “Fuck Authority”, but I settled for an mp3 version of the album that was released just before it.  Amazon’s selection of Pennywise mp3s is shit, so I got it from iTunes.

As I was uploading the album onto my phone, the songs cut-off at around song 15 and stopped uploading.  I discovered shortly after that the problem was a lack of space on my phone’s memory card.  So, I deleted some stuff I don’t listen to, and ordered a new 8gb M2 memory card to replace the now-full 4gb one I have.  Doing this, and seeing that 8gb is apparently the largest size I can get of an m2, I know now that I will eventually upgrade to an iPod of a fairly large size.  I wonder how long it’ll take to fill up four more gigs.  Not that I’m anxious; I want as much use from my Walkman phone as I can get.  It’ll be interesting.

Game Mastering

I and my friends had our first real session of Dungeons & Dragons today.  I, as my name would suggest, am Dungeon Master, thus the one who creates and controls the game world in order to make the game playable in the first place.  The town I have more or less set up is called Harth.  We had a great time with the adventure, until we became pressed for time around 7:00, causing the game to become rushed and things to become far more heavily disorganized.  On top of that, I didn’t have any of the core rulebooks on-hand, and with no Internet connection at the time (though I had a laptop) no access to the online system reference documents.  Thus, some of the rules had to be fumbled around and improvised, as well as the animate mirror that I had attack them.  It all just makes me more determined to be prepared for next time.

We played at Spiro’s house, as seemed natural.  Not only in Spiro’s house, but in the basement, which is just classic for playing D&D.  This is the kind of group and game that we’ve dreamed of, or at least that I’ve dreamed of.  Playing with close friends whom I don’t have to struggle to get along with is really what I’ve wanted, with whom we can all make jokes and just have a great time.

Our next session is sure to be superior, since I’ll have all my shit together then.

Dice Journal

Well, I’ve made a new post at the Tome of Writs, my other blog, although I renamed the blog to be Dice Journal.  I’ve really stopped digging a name like “Tome of Writs”, which is strange and non-catchy.  Dice Journal isn’t perfect, but it accomplishes the task of describing what the blog is while referring to dice in some way.  That’s a common goal, right?

The new post really is like a journal entry, which I suppose is normal for a blog, except that that blog in particular is so irregular.  It’s become impossible to keep the categories useful, even though they aren’t really needed anyway.  It’s so hard to predict what will occur within a journal so as to predict what categories will be needed and to keep the categories balanced.  But again, they’re not important.

I’m not sure what I’m trying to accomplish by molding these blogs around so much.  I don’t really have anything to accomplish, except to express what I’m feeling.

I bought the Eels MP3 album Sixteen Tons …

I bought the Eels MP3 album Sixteen Tons (Ten Songs) off of their download…place…on their site. Only two of the songs are otherwise unreleased, but all of the other songs are alternate versions, so it’s still like new. I think I needed this, just a small bite of freshness from the Eels. My head has progressively hurt more and more as the day went on, until I finally took some ibuprofen.

I felt weird today. Frustrated and weird.  I think it was the building headache.  However, before that got too bad, I picked up my guitar with intent to learn for the first time in a while. Now I have to practice the three chords I got refreshed on, so I can go from one to the other smoothly. I don’t want to waltz into college, especially an all-around art college, with a guitar and not look like I’ve at least been trying to learn. It’s been an awful waste so far, and I need to fix that.

I successfully received the t-shirt I or …

I successfully received the t-shirt I ordered from Valve in the mail today. And it’s the correct shirt, not the wrong one, making me have to go onto Valve’s support page, have the wrong t-shirt picked up and then wait again for the right one. I already went through that once. The first one was okay, but aside from me not having ordered it, it was just kinda plain, the Half-Life 2 logo with “Half-Life 2 written beneath it, orange on black. The correct one, which is lying folded-up on my bed right now, is olive, and depicts a forearm raised upwards, with the Half-Life 2 lambda logo symbolically on the palm. The image can be found in a non-colored form in-game, and says “born” beneath it. I have little-to-no idea what it means, but it looks AWESOME.
